Original leaf from a medieval manuscript Book of Hours,” illuminated in the style of the Maitre Francois. 15 lines of Latin text on animal vellum. Ruled in red with dark brown ink, in fine gothic textura script, with rubrics (headings) in red. One two-line initial, seven one-line initials and six line extenders in gold on a red and blue background with delicate white tracery. Books of Hours are personal prayer books of a devout and status-conscious society and are not only works of art, but cultural documents of their time.
