This 1877 “Progress Map of the U.S. Geographical Surveys West of the 100th Meridian” accompanied the annual report of 1st Lieut. George M. Wheeler (Corps of Engineers, U.S. Army). Indicated on the map are index areas to atlas maps, completed and proposed primary astronomical stations, military posts,and existing and proposed telegraph lines. Also indicated and most notable are the “Lines of Expeditions, prosecuting Explorations and Surveys conducted by Officers of the Line’, ‘Corps of Topographical Engineers’, and ‘Corps of Engineers’, U.S. Army”.
