We are proud to offer this extremely rare and unique map of Mexico and Texas by James Gilbert. This particular map is special because it shows the Republic of Texas as it once stretched all the way up the Rio Grande to the Colorado Rockies, and up into present day Wyoming; and engulfed parts of present day New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas and Mexico. Historically formatted, this map portrays Texas at its geographic zenith. This map was issued in 1840 as part of Gilbert’s Modern Atlas of the Earth. In our over 40 years in the antique map business, it is difficult to remember any finer maps than these. The coloring is exquisite, the engraving is exceptional, and the paper quality is extraordinary.
