The Geological Survey is making a geologic atlas of the United States, which is being issued in parts, called Folio’s. Each folio includes topographic and geologic maps of a certain area, together with a descriptive text.”Published by the United States Geological Survey in Washington. These folios include a great deal of information regarding the topographic and geologic structure of the cites and towns that are listed. This folio for Downieville, California was published in 1897. It includes a table of generalized section of the formations of the Gold Belt. Maps in this folio are: Topographic, Historical Geology, Economic Geology, and Structure Section. There are also 6 black and white photos of various soil, rocks, and lakes in the quadrangle. This atlas has small tears throughout, and is loosely held together in its original paper cover.”
