This stunning early map of the New York City region was created by Joan Vinckeboons, a cartographer from Holland. This is a manuscript map, meaning there was only one copy made, and inckeboons drew this on site with pen-and-ink and watercolor. It’s a fascinating map showing landowners, Indian houses, plantations and farms. It also shows Staten Island, Long Island and many interesting points of interest. This original map is in the Library of Congress.
