Elaborate panel borders in acanthus and floral motifs – including strawberries (symbol of perfect righteousness) on liquid gold ground. The red one-line B” (recto) begins a section of Daniel 3:60-89: “Benedicite aque que?” (O all ye waters that are above the heavens, bless the lord: Praise and exalt him above all forever?).Book of Hours are personal prayer books of a devout and status-conscious society and are not only works of art, but cultural documents of the their time.
