This is an original leaf from an early French manuscript pocket Bible. Written in Latin miniscule gothic script, in brown ink on animal vellum. Rubricated chapter numbers, initials and marginalia in red and blue. 55 lines of text in double columns. (10 lines per inch!). The text is from the Book of Jeremiah: 37-40. This leaf is from a portable” Bible of the Crusades period & would have been used in the abstract study of theology or preaching of the Gospel around the medieval countryside.
