Original leaf from a medieval manuscript Missal. Two columns (29 lines each) of Latin text, written in rotunda script in black and red ink on animal parchment. Five two-line initials alternately in blue and red with the extensive fine pen-scroll tracery in blue or ed extending to the margins. Numerous one-line initials alternating in red and blue. One exceptional illuminated four-line initial in pink, yellow and green with an interior of red, orange and blue on a square gold ground, extending into the margin with a floral motif in red, orange, green and gold.The two-line I” (recto) notes the beginning of John 21:20-24 “In?Conversus Petrus?” (Peter turning about, saw that disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also leaned on his breast at supper, and said: Lord, who is he that shall betray thee?). The two-line “I” (verso) note the beginning of Apocalypse (Revelation) 14:1-5: “In?Vidi supra montem?” (And I beheld, and lo a lamb stood upon mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty-four thousand, having his name, and his Father, written on their foreheads?)”
