This work by English naturalist, botanist, mycologist, and illustrator James Bolton is part of a collection of twenty drawings from around 1768 depicting items from the personal collection of 18th-century English naturalist Anna Blackburne. The collection included preserved specimens like insects, shells, minerals, and birds which Bolton skillfully composed together with watercolor, gouache, and graphite on parchment paper. Artfully created scientific images were very popular at the time.
