Fritz Hilton’s Pictorial State Bird and Flower Map of the United States

Order Code: MM-2592 Categories: ,

In stock

This decorative pictorial map emphasizes America’s state birds and flowers rather than geographic detail. Rendered in soft colors with stylized topography, it presents illustrated emblems for all fifty states, the United States, and the District of Columbia, accompanied by a reference list along the lower margin. The movement to designate official state birds was promoted in the 1920s by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, with Kentucky first adopting the Northern Cardinal in 1926. State flowers were chosen earlier, beginning in the late nineteenth century when the Oklahoma Territory selected mistletoe as its floral emblem. The map is based on artwork by Fritz Hilton and was published in Baltimore by Barton-Cotton, Inc., c. 1956.
