One of three American city views published in the London Magazine in 1761 and 1762, this attractive panorama was based on a much earlier engraving by William Burgis showing the city in 1716 and published a few years later.� Views of Philadelphia and Charleston are similar in character and were also prepared from larger and earlier versions described and illustrated elsewhere in this catalog.
