Carte De L Amerique Septentrionale’
Out of stock
This is a glorious map of North America at a time when the prairies were teaming with bison, and the majority of the US was a number of states east of the Mississippi River. Somehow this map captures some of the drama of this era. We see numerous Indian tribes inhabiting the Middle West, and several territories long since lost, such as the expansive Missouri territory, and the territory of the Northwest. This is a fine French copper plate engraving, which incorporates the latest discoveries of the time including the findings of Lewis & Clark. There are interesting features found throughout this map, including its speculative treatment of Canada, the immense channel through the midst of Greenland, as well as the territorial northern boundary of the Pacific Northwest. The condition of this map is very good, with attractive hand color.
