Art Source International is proud to offer this framed map of Savannah, Georgia from the 1856 edition of Coltons Atlas of the World. Colton atlases, especially those from the 1850’s, have become increasingly rare. The Colton firm refused to compromise quality, choosing to compete for sales in the finer quality international market rather than the inexpensive domestic one. Because of this, all maps were engraved by steel plates rather than by wax engraving which was the most common method used at this time. This map shows street names, points of interest, rivers, and includes a small note at the top left hand corner of the origin of Savannah.
