Original leaf from a Renaissance manuscript Book of Hours (105x73mm). 15 lines of text, written in Latin with dark brown ink and blue ink (which is highly unusual) on animal vellum. One four-line, two two-line, and four one-line illuminated initials in gold/silver on red/blue or green ground. The text is surrounded with an exceptional inhabited trompe l’oeil floral border. (containing a butterfly – the symbol of Resurrection, snail, strawberry – symbol of perfect righteousness, and lilies – symbol of purity) showing the influence of Simon Bening. Netherlands, c. 1500.
