Published by the United States Geological Survey in Washington, these maps are often used as the basis for other commercial map products and they serve as one of the best tools available for navigating the countrys wild and urban terrain as well as soil and rock geologic structures. The topographic maps show contour lines (lines of equal elevation) which depict natural features of the land, as well as streams, roads, trails, forest types, buildings, and other natural man-made features. These series of maps are from folios of each quadrangle and include several different variations of the land in the particular quadrangle, such as topographic, historical geology, economic geology, structure sections, and areal geology. Maps in this series for Sacramento quadrangle includes Topography, Areal Geology, Economic Geology, and Structure Sections, published in 1893, this is a 1914 revision to the previous Economic Geology Sheet.
