This page is from a Book of Hours, Use of Rome, France (Anjou). The writing is in Latin on Vellum, circa 1470. It’s 11 rows of script in a gothic liturgical hand upon lines ruled in purple ink; capitals touched in yellow and/or rubrics, and burnished gold verse initials with black penwork and/or letters rubricated in blue with contrasting pen work. This passage is from the sixth Canonical Hour of None. Recto: Closing orations to the Hour; verso, displays a two-line high burnished gold verse initial P” (Presta quesumus) and a horizontal catchword, indicating this was the last leaf in the quire. Smudging on verso is offsetting from an ornate facing page, most probably the opening of the Hour of Vespers.
