At the height of 19th century cartography, comes the work of H. Dufour. In Dufours work, we see a consummate example of French steel-engraving at the time, with its rich ability to depict texture as well as detail, and here, portraying the latest in geographic information. These uncommonly large maps, are the state of the art for the time, and convey a strong sense of the French aesthetic at the time, with a wealth of detail shown in a clean, articulate and ornate fashion. These are unique maps with a large stately presentation, and rich original hand color. These very detailed maps show cities and towns, lakes and rivers, topographical features, as well as numerous other details. This map of the Holy land is three maps in one. The left side shows Palestine as it was around 1863, the lower right corner the 12 tribes if Isreal and the upper corner the exodus route of toe Palestine. There is also an inset map of Jerusalem.
