1874 Asher & Adams, Colorado Territory
In stock
This early map of Colorado Territory comes from Asher & Adams’ Atlas of the United States and represents one of the earliest large-format maps of the region to be featured in a commercially published atlas. It includes some of the initial township surveys and prominently displays several major railroad lines of the era, such as the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad, Denver Pacific, Denver & South Platte, Kansas Pacific, Colorado Central and more.
As a result, the map provides a rare and valuable glimpse into Colorado’s territorial development during the early railroad boom. Summit County encompasses much of northwestern Colorado — a region that would later be divided as waves of miners and settlers arrived and new towns emerged. A few key settlements are shown on the map, including but not limited to, Ft. Lyon, Pueblo, Canon City, Colorado City (Colorado Springs), Breckenridge and Central City. Asher & Adams were among the first American atlas publishers to focus almost exclusively on railroad lines, with earlier editions showing limited geographic detail beyond rail-linked settlements.
