​In 1798 this map titled “Carte Generale Des Etats Unis, de L’Amerique Septentrionale, renfermant aussi quelques Provinces Angloises adjacente s” was published, offering a detailed depiction of the eastern half of the United States and Canada. This map was the result of a collaboration between cartographers Pierre François Tardieu, Pierre Gregoire Chanlaire, and Edme Mentelle, and it reflects the geopolitical landscape of the post-Revolutionary War era.  This map was produced during a time of significant change and interest in North America. This map shows an interesting chart of the 14 states and their capitals. The United States had recently gained independence, and European powers were keenly interested in the political and geographic developments of the new nation. Maps like this served not only as navigational tools but also as instruments of political and economic insight.
