This coastal survey chart was published in 1870 from U.S. Coast Surveys and most recent authorities. Soundings are listed in fathoms, heights in feet. A small chart at the top indicates the high water (full and change), the mean rise and fall of Spring tides for the main points, hooks, capes, and harbors. This chart focuses on mackerel fish where the colored portions of the chart show the waters frequented by mackerel in their migrations from first being seen in March and followed north by fishermen. This chart covers the east coast from Cape Lookout in North Carolina up to the Long Island Sound.
