In Dufours work, we see a consummate example of French steel-engraving at the time, with its rich ability to depict texture as well as detail, and here, portraying the latest in geographic information. These uncommonly large maps, are the state of the art for the time, and convey a strong sense of the French aesthetic at the time, with a wealth of detail shown in a clean, articulate and ornate fashion.
