This is a map Showing Proposed Location of Canals and Works of channel improvement at Rock Island Rapids, Mississippi River. To accompany report of Jan. 16 1889, board of engineer officers constituted by S.O. NO: 59 Headquarters chief of engineers, Washington D.C. October 29th, 1888. This map is scaled at 1in:2250ft. This map also features profiles of the upper and lower canals, also showing rock excavations, embankment and water levels. There are notes explaining what the various diagrams and lines mean and indicating how to read the map correctly. Natural and man-made features include: Guide Pier, Port Byron, Le Claire, Rapids City, Fulton’s Island, Rock Island, Davenport, Moline, Watertown, Hampton and Campbell’s Island.
