This hand colored map was made by Adam and Charles Black for “Blacks General Atlas” published in 1841. The map features Mexico and the south western part of the United States. This map is a classic! Texas’ northern boundary goes to the Arkansas river and west to Santa Fe, the New Mexico Territory is just emerging. Note California in its first configuration stretching all the way to the Rocky Mountains. And pre-Gadsen purchase from Mexico. Includes an inset map of Guatemala in the corner. Details include the names of countries and many cities, illustrations of rivers, lakes, and mountains. Regions are distinguished by pink, yellow, blue, and green outline color which is well maintained for the age of the map. The impression of the press used to engrave the map is still visible.
