A New Description of Carolina
Out of stock
Art Source International is proud to offer this rare map made from the engraving plate of the historian John Speed. Our map was produced in 1676 by Thomas Bassett and Richard Chiswell whose names appear on the imprint. The beautifully hand colored map shows North and South Carolina in their original unified state as one would see the coast if they were sailing towards it from the east. Many place names and some important topographical features, such as rivers and mountain chains, are provided on the map. Small illustrations of boats and a tiny stag running on the map are also shown.
