This map was produced for the “Monarch Standard Atlas” , by J. Martin Miller in 1905. South America is illustrated on this map. Three insets show 1) the Republic of Panama with detail of the Panama Canal, 2) a cross section of the Panama Canal 3) the Galapagos Islands. Main sea routes are shown. Other details include the names of countries and important cities, lakes, rivers and mountains. The atlas states that it offers “complete, original and authentic maps of the present developement of all the countries, empires and states of the world comprising a graphic description of the people: their civilization, their religion, their government, their cities, their important exports, their wealth, their railways, their canals, their cables, their telegraphs, ect., including a description of their climate, the productions, the rivers, the valleys, the lakes, the mountains, the minerals, the glaciers, and every other subject of interest to the american people.”
