This 1883 print by A.J. Johnson shows the United States Capitol building. The caption beneath reads, “Entered, according to Act of Congress, in the year 1866, by A.J. Johnson, in the Clerks Office of the District Court of the United States for the Southern District of New York.” Families, carriages, and dogs traverse the busy streets below. This series of maps are very unique in that they’re the latest we’ve seen, in over 30 years of collecting, by famed cartographer A.J. Johnson. An enthralling and informative find!
