This hand colored map was made by Adam and Charles Black for “Black’s General Atlas” published in 1851. Features Mexico and the south western part of the United States. This map is a classic! Texas’s northern boundry goes to the Arkansas river and west to Santa Fe, the New Mexico Territory is just emerging. Note California in its first configeration streaching all the way to the Rocky Mountains. And pre-Gadsen purchase from Mexico. Includes an inset map of Guatimala in the corner. Details include the names of countries and many cities, illustrations of rivers, lakes, and mountains. Regions are distinguished by pink, yellow, blue, and green color which is well maintained for the age of the map. The impression of the press used to engrave the map is still visible.
