This is an in-depth reference book of great Western American paintings from Catlin to Russell. Author Larry Curry selected the works and has written detailed descriptions of each plate, some with quotes and inspirations from the painters themselves. This book also contains chronologies and bibliographies of the artists. The plates are mainly in black and white, with several in color as well. A check list of plates include medium, size, and location of the paintings. Published by The Viking Press Inc, in association with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The book is in good condition with some chipping of clear coat cover.
