This sepia-toned photograph of the Graduate Class of 1886, shows five graduate men. It was taken by photographer, J. B. Sturtevant, nicknamed Rocky Mountain Joe”, circa 1900. He was one of the first regular photographers in Boulder. One of the men listed is Victor Irwin Noxon, who is the grandfather of the famous Boulder astronaut, Scott Carpenter. Scott Carpenter’s mother had a long confinement at Boulder’s Mesa Vista Sanatorium meant Scott would be raised by his maternal grandparents, primarily by his grandfather’ and hero’ Victor Irwin Noxon, publisher of the Boulder County Miner & Farmer.”
