This spectacular map of the American continent depicts America as it was 1845. Mexico still owned the region west of Texas to the Pacific and the Republic of Texas had not yet joined the United States (admitted December 1845). Alaska is referred to as Russian America. Major cities, mountains, waterways and military forts are also located. The populations of each country are also depicted, with the Republic of Texas having only 200,000 people.
