This map appeared in the sixth of the seven-volume Atlas Historique” and was a celebration of the age of discovery. While showing California as an island, notation on the map makes it one of the first European maps to call into question the myth of “California as an island”, indicating many European’s belief that it was indeed attached to the continent.”
