This 1593 map by Cornelius De Jode depicts the Northern and Southern Hemispheres of the world in a time when most cartographers captured the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. This map has a few misconceptions about it. Namely, this map contains no indications of Korea and the Philippines, as they had yet to be discovered. China’s border is also falsely drawn. In the Americas, California is shown along with the mythical cities of Quivira and Civola. This map was drawn based on accounts from Portugal and Spain during a time when most of the world was unexplored.
