The original map was done in 1859, published by W. Gillingham. The map shows George Washington’s land at Mount Vernon, in Fairfax County, Virginia, ‘as it was & as it is.’ Laid down from old maps made by George Washington and from actual surveys. There are several insets on the map including drawings of the mansion house and of Washington’s tomb, as well as a plan of the grounds around Mt. Vernon Mansion with the names of the buildings as used in Washington’s time. Lithographed by E. Sachse & Company in Washington DC.
