1896 map of Battle of Chickamauga on September 19-20, 1863.After Chattanooga was taken by Union forces, the Confederates under General Braxton Bragg retreated to Chickamauga Creek in Georgia and were planning to counter attack the widely separated pursuing Union troops. Although this plan was not carried out due to Bragg allowing the Union troops to unite, the Confederates still managed to defeat the Union army led by William Rosecrans, The map shows the positions of both armies on September 20.
