Jacques-Nicolas Bellin was a French hydrographer, geographer, and member of the French intellectual group the philosophes. At 18, he began his career as a hydrographer for the French Navy and was known for producing a great number of meticulously-detailed nautical charts through his works the Atlas Maritime and the Hydrographie Francaise. He became the Official Hydrographer of the French King.
