This reproduction illustration of Sacramento was orignally created in 1848. The discovery of gold near Sutter’s Mill in 1848 brought thousands of prospectors to California. Towns and cities developed almost overnight. Sacramento, shown in this delicately colored view, was one of the most important of these new communities.
