This handsome toned lithograph shows Santa Barbara, in 1877, stretching from the Pacific shore in the foreground to the mission at the far left. The site of an early fort and the most impressive mission built by the Spanish in California, Santa Barbara’s coastal location proved attractive to settlers from the east.
