This beautifully detailed illustration of Venice, Italy was created by Hartman Schedel, in his Liber Chronicarum (more familiarly known as the Nuremberg Chronicle,) in 1493. It is one of the earliest works of urban topography. Each building is drawn to scale and small details can clearly be seen. It is unsurpassed in its accuracy, wealth of information, decorative appeal, and high quality of craftsmanship.
