De Jode’s 1578 world map is among the most significant world maps of the 16th Century to appear in an atlas. Based upon Abraham Ortelius’ monumental 8 sheet map of the World published in Antwerp in 1564, the map was first separately issued with a different title (Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Descriptio) and the originals are quite hard to find.
