A finely engraved map from Chatelains monumental 7 volume Atlas Historique, one of the most famous and prolific works of the early 18th century. This is a double hemisphere world map in elaborate framework, includes two astronomical diagrams, compass rose and large table of explanations below. A striking and highly decorative map. California is depicted as an island. The west coast of America extends due west towards Asia, one of the predominating theories of the 17th and early 18th centuries.
