American artist, Emmett Watson created this cover for of The American Legion Weekly, January 26, 1923. Watson began his career in advertising by the age of 13 while working full time for a local engraving company. During the war, his artistic skills were used as a cartographer while stationed in France for the U.S. Army. By 1928, he was painting for slick magazine covers, including this one for the American Legion Weekly. The detailed style is showcased in this illustration of a woman skier trailed by a male companion. Watson’s art continued to gain speed and would make a great addition to any collection of vintage covers.
