The first around the world flight was begun on April 6, 1924. Four Douglas biplanes left Seattle under the Direction of Captain Lowell H. Smith flying by way of Alaska, Japan, India, Turkey, Austria, England, Iceland, Greenland and Labrador. Two of the planes were unable to finish, but the other two, the New Orleans and the Chicago, completed the fight of 27,553 miles within 175 days…
