Original 14th century Antiphonal leaf in manuscript calligraphy, on animal parchment. Text and music are written in brown ink, the four-line-stave in brown and red, with initials alternately in blue (with red tracery) and re (with blue tracery). Beautifully executed 600 years ago during the mid 14th century!The red S” is from Joshua 1:5-6: “Sicut fui cum Moyse?” (I have been with Moses, so will I be with thee: I will not leave thee, nor forsake thee. Take courage, and be strong?).Antiphonals contain chants for the canonical hours of the Devine Office: first vespers or the vigil of great feasts, matins, lauds, prime, terce, sext, none, vespers and compline.
