This hand colored map is from the “Atlas de Geographie”, made by Felix Delamarche in Paris, 1856. North and Central America are illustrated on this well maintained French map. The Aleutian Islands are shown in an inset at the same scale as the main map. Pastel colors were used distinguish regions. Other details include identification (in French) of countries, important cities, rivers, lakes, and mountain ranges. At the time that this map was made Alaska was Russian territory and most of the western United States was the land of Native Americans.
