This map is from Johnsons New Illustrated Family Atlas of the World printed in 1868 by A.J. Johnson. Johnson maps are characterized by hand coloring in red and green and distinctive borders, including iron scroll work and a Celtic design. This map of the vicinity of Richmond, and Peninsular Campaign in Virginia- showing also the interesting localities along the James, Chickahominy and York Rivers is colored in bright pastels. The map was compiled from maps provided by the War Department and identifies important battles and their dates, routs of advance and evacuation. Rail lines, major streets, and rivers are also shown.Depth readings along the coast are shown as well.
