This map depicts several places practicable for making a navigable canal between the Santee and Cooper Rivers of South Carolina. Today, Lake Moultrie was created in the early 1940s by the South Carolina Public Service Authority. Its effluent is the Cooper River and is located S.W. of the town of St Stephen. The lake is fed by a single lock, perhaps a portion of the old canal. Surveyed by Henry Mouzon
