This coastal survey was made in Washington D.C. on January 6, 1945 by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey. The Mississippi River in Louisiana from Buras to New Orleans is illustrated on this map. Details include the names of islands, waterways and important cities on the coast,lakes, bayous, depth readings, identification of radio beacons, bouys, and lights (stamped on map), cable lines, and restricted and prohibited areas where appropriate. The most recent corrections are stamped on the map. Notes on the map include: Warning: Aids to navigation may be altered, interrupted or removed without notice. In general, temporary changes due to war conditions are not incorporated on the chart. Tides: The periodic tide in this portion of the Mississippi River is generally negligible, the variation in water level depending principally on river discharge. High water stages usually occour from April to July. At New Orleans the extreme difference between high and low stages of the river is about 21 feet and the mean difference about 14 feet. Caution: Temporary changes affecting Lights, Buoys and Day Beacons Aids which have been destroyed or removed, but which will be reestablished and are temporarily replaced by aids of different characteristics, are indicated in color by the following abbreviations.
