This coastal survey was made in Washington D.C. in October, 1944 by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey department. Chesapeake Bay Enterance is illustrated on this map. Details include depth readings, roads and important cities along the coast, lableing of prohibited and restricted areas where appropriate, cable areas, the locations of radio beacons, and a table to show the variation of the tide. Date of Issue and most recent corrections hand stamped on map Notes on the map read “WARNING: Aids to navigation may be altered, interrupted or removed without notice. In general, temporary changes due to war conditions are not incorporated in the chart.”Defensive Sea Area: The area within the seaward limits of Territorial Waters between a line extending 130 true from Cape Charles Lighthouse on Smith Island and parallel of Latitude 36-51″15” is a defensive sea area. A vessel not proceeding under U.S. naval or other U.S. Authorized supervision shall not enter or navigate the waters of a defensive sea area except during daylight, when good visibility conditions prevail, and then only when specific permission has been obtained.
