Jean-Francois de Galaup, Comte de la Perouse (1741-1788) commanded a French expedition with the frigates La Boussole and L’Astrolabe to complete Cook’s Surveys. This map shows the Alexander Archipelago in South Alaska. It was discovered by the Spaniard expedition, led by Quadra and Maurelle in 1775 and 1779..  In 1788 the expedition was ship wrecked, but the charts were saved and were published by L. Aubert in “Atlas Du Voyage de la Perouse”in 1797.  Copperplate engraved chart by Herault and engraved  by Bouclet, hand coloured.
