This hand colored map is from “Grays Atlas of the United States with General Maps of the World Accompanied by Descriptions Geographical, Historical, Scientific, and Statistical”, published by O.W.Gray in 1975. The street plan of Washington D.C. is illustrated on this map, as well as the surrounding suburbs. Many government buildings and monuments are identified, including the Smithsonian, the Washington Monument, the Capitol Building, Washington Statue, the National Observatory, Alms House, Lincoln Square, City Hall, the Interior Department, Stanton Place, the Congressional Cemetary, several colleges, and the U.S. Lunatic Asylum. Details include districts distinguished by bright pastels, illustrations of hills, lakes, rivers, railroads,parks and common areas, important buildings, and major roads. This map is remarkably well preserved-with only slight age toning along the edge of the page.
